Trick Art at Kuso Art Gallery, Johor Bahru

Heading to Johor Bahru, and need other diversion besides shopping and dining this June school holidays? You may want to pay Kuso Art Gallery a visit. Johor Bahru’s 1st and only 3D art gallery thus far.
(Note: Kuso Art Gallery has announced on closure of business on 30 June 2018 on its Facebook page.)

The 3D oil painting art gallery is located on the 3rd floor of two terrace shop houses. A bridal photography studio occupies the 2nd floor and a cafe too, both of which were not opened during our visit. The cafe appeared to be a small counter selling drinks and perhaps some light snacks. Nothing fancy.

Shoes are not allowed within the gallery so wearing socks there is a good idea. Floor area is not big. The oil paintings are classified into 5 different themes: Be Funny, Excitement Scene, Horror Room, Romantic Love & Sweet Moment.

Step on the strategically placed arrows for the best angles. And if you have no idea how to pose for a certain shot, there are examples and tips like this one.

Here are some of the great shots we took:

The gallery, opened in April 2014, is highly rated by past visitors. However, due to its age and footfall over the years, it is showing signs of wear and tear on the walls and props. If you are not obsessed over such details (I admit I do sometimes), all is good.

The art gallery offered an add-on which allows visitors a chance to experience 9DVR (virtual reality) in games or movies. We were keen to try that but it was faulty during our visit. And with the gallery moving out, doubt it will be fixed and made available for rest of this month.

The place is good, though to us no real wow factor. Would have loved to take more full frame shots. Nevertheless, it is an ideal place for interactive family bonding as you think of crazy poses and do them together. You will likely end up with some crack photos if you are creative enough.

We spent around an hour in the gallery. Being the only visitors in the place, we had the place all to ourselves without having to wait or queue. So given the size of the place, the time spent is just about enough.
