Rove Downtown Dubai Hotel Review

Dubai ranked second, behind Geneva, according to Bloomberg as being the most costly cities for hotel rooms. The average cost for a night in Dubai is US$273. Not friendly on the pocket for a cost-conscious traveller like yours truly. So I spent a fair bit of time searching through the Internet for a suitable hotel for my stopovers. The first hotel I stayed in was Rove Downtown Dubai.

At a nightly cost of US$105 (incl tax) for a double room, the 3-star hotel’s charges was within my budget. And the best part is, the hotel is within walking distance to Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa metro station. Dubai is cheapest to visit in July and August when it’s at its hottest, followed by Ramadan. My visit coincided with Ramadan so I got myself a good deal.

I arrived in Dubai in the early hours of the morning. Sleepy-eyed from the flight, I was thankful that the hotel allowed me to check in at 7am in the morning. This gave me a chance to rest my eyes and freshen up before heading out to explore the city. It may be due to the hotel being not fully occupied during this Ramadan month. But still the staff were going the extra mile for a guest who was staying just one night.

The hotel’s Rover – Burj View room of contemporary design.

And not forgetting to remind you where you are, in case you wake up from your dreams wondering.

Nothing fancy about the en-suite toilet design but that’s fine, it’s not as if I intended to spend a lot of time in there.

The hotel, built in 2016, has 420 rooms over 14 floors. Mine was on the 5th. One thing I like was the view I got from inside the room. If you like this, remember to book the rooms with Burj view which cost slightly more than rooms facing other directions. This was the view i had from my room, which would have been better if the windows were sparkling clean.

The Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa is 850 metres or around 15 mins walk away. The metro is much further at 1.5km away due to the size of mall but still bearable since the link way and mall is air-conditioned.

The cosy lounge area with a small gaming corner that will please restless little ones.

Amenities included an outdoor swimming pool with sun loungers, a boutique convenience store, a gymnasium, laundry facilities and a locker room. Love the little touch of decorating the locker room wall with stuffed toys.

As I needed to set off for the airport the next day at 7am, I opted out of the hotel continental breakfast served in The Daily in Rover Downtown, saving some bucks. After all, I’m not an early breakfast person, so unfortunately can’t review on that.

For the value and the view, Rove Downtown Dubai is worth considering on your next trip to Dubai.
