Our dinner at Rai Chan Raem Restaurant, Khao Kho

We had dinner at Rai Chan Raem Restaurant on our first night in Khao Kho after reading good reviews on it. It is ranked #3 out of 15 restaurants in Khao Kho and in Klook’s sample itinerary. Sounds like a good choice?

It was. The food did not disappoint even though we had to travel quite a distance for the meal. The journey from Kiri Pura Resort or Wat Pha Sorn Kaew took 30 minutes per way.

The restaurant overlooks nearby mountains making the experience enjoyable with great views. Naturally we chose a table outside.

The menu is in both Thai and English so ordering our dinner was not a problem.

We had 3 dishes and 2 soups to go with plain white rice. Rice was served in a common rice serving bowl, and we helped ourselves to as much as we wanted. They also served bottled drinking water with cups on a trolley beside our table.

Dad and Mum could not resist ordering one of our all-time favourite, tom yam goong or hot and sour prawn soup, at ฿200 (S$8.40). The soup was creamier than we would have prefer but their blend of herbs made it taste yummy. Thinking of it now makes my mouth water.

The kids had clear soup with tofu and seaweed at ฿150 (S$6.30), with generous portion of ingredients.

Instead of ordering a ‘named’ vegetable, we went for ‘fried local vegetable with fresh mushroom’ at ฿120 (S$5.00). My guess is that was stir-fried vegetable fern with fiddleheads or furled fronds.

Then there was this deep-fried pork omelette at ฿90 (S$3.80). The kids loved this egg omelette with minced meat that was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. It is classified under deep-fried category and I thought it was a typo error. Nope, it is not.

The priciest dish that night was deep fried fish in sweet sauce at ฿380 (S$16.00). This dish was well-fried, just like the pork omelette, and came with a tomato-based sauce. Our little ones’ favourite of all.
