Khao Kho’s Blue Sky Resort and Pino Latte

Blue Sky Resort comes highly-recommended on many booking and travel platforms with rave reviews from guests. The European-style resort makes visitors forget they are actually in Asia.

We booked their Family Villa since there were initially 6 of us travelling. The maximum occupancy for this room type is 5 so I spent some time convincing them to process our booking with 6 pax. They eventually obliged but not before we swear we won’t be holding any party there.

Blue Sky Resort’s villas are in a cluster away from the main resort. The country-styled villas are quaint and picturesque, built close to one another. Loft villas have mezzanine floors with staircase within the unit which is suitable for a big family. Family villas are 2-storied and allows for more privacy with spiral staircase on the outside, separating the upper and lower floor sleeping space. So despite its name, I think family villas are more suitable for groups of friends who prefers to sleep in separate rooms.

This was our villa for the night, Villa 7:

From this angle, it looks much like a castle:

The total floor area of each villa is 70 sq.m. This was the lower floor of our family villa. Not very spacious, the extra ‘bed’ (or rather just a mattress) was set right in front of the armchair leaving not much walking space. They had little touches here and there to create a European feel. The lower floor en-suite room had the usual flat screen TV and coffee-making facilities.

The upper storey of the family villa was simply furnished with two mattresses placed together on the floor to form ‘twin beds’, as listed on its official website. The interior looked quite unlike the photos we saw on hotel booking sites. There was a bathroom with shower and water closet, a wash basin opposite the ‘bed’ and that was it. I can’t really recall if there was a television set but there were no other amenities here. Very much a sleeping space only.

We woke up early for a morning walk. The well-maintained grounds around the villa was really good for invigorating walks. Giant chess set, sculptures and blooming flowers make for some delightful shots.

The breakfast spread was satisfactory with the usual bread, cereal, salad and local style porridge. A big thank you to the friendly staff who were thoughtful to have given us an extra breakfast voucher for our driver.

The outdoor dining area overlooks Blue Sky’s English garden.

The charming gift shop in a corner that does not look like one.

The resort has many Instagram-worthy spots with an English garden and garden maze.

To get the most out of a villa stay, you really have to have own transport. We were stuck in the villa for the entire night as our driver went off to rest for the night. The villas are far from the main lobby and resort amenities. There was no shuttle bus services. Walking to the main resort was also not an option as the road is long and at some parts dark. Kind of sad isn’t it to be on family vacation and had to dine on cup noodles which we thankfully had bought the day before. Even waiting for our extra ‘bed’ and pillows took quite a while.

The staff who helped us with our check-in were apologetic about the distance but there was little they can do. This was not stated on their website, at least not on the English one. So do take note if you are booking their family villas and loft villas. For better accessibility to resort amenities, do choose the deluxe rooms or family rooms which we should have done.

Pino Latte is a popular cafe in Khao Kho, known for its views of the surrounding mountains and sea of clouds (sadly, there was none when we were there).

Even though it was past mealtime, there was a steady stream in and out of the cafe. This must be the most taken shot in Pino Latte. We waited quite a long in queue for this.

They are famous for their signature Egg Benedict. We missed that as we reached that past 3pm for a late lunch cum tea break.

They serve Western cuisine, salad and cakes with a range of coffee and tea.

These were the main courses that we tried:

  • Top left: Cheese Burger (THB 255): Kurobuta pork with french fries and salad (choice of Angus beef also available)
  • Top right: Barbeque Pork (THB 175): Pork ribs with French fries and salad
  • Bottom left: Pino Wings (THB 145): Spicy and soy garlic flavoured drumlets and mid-wings with french fries and salad
  • Bottom right: Pad Kee Mao Seafood Spaghetti (THB 175): spicy pasta with prawns, mussels, squid and clams

Each set meal was pleasingly placed in a wooden tray, with main course and French fries in disposable plates and salad in a glass mug jar. The main course were palatable. The drumlets and ribs were juicy and the pasta was flavourful, but the salad could do with more dressing.

Pino Latte has an adjoining 3.5 star resort that has 5 container cabin style rooms, with price ranging from S$209 to S$326 based on standard rooms (source: TripAdvisor).
