Baiyoke Sky Buffet, Observation Deck and Revolving View Point

Fancy enjoying a sumptuous meal of Thai cuisine while enjoying a bird’s eye view of Bangkok? If yes, a visit to Baiyoke Sky Tower II is the answer.

Baiyoke Sky Tower II is the second tallest building in Bangkok after MahaNakhon. It houses the Baiyoke Sky Hotel, currently tallest hotel in Southeast Asia and ranked 7th in the world (source: The Skyscraper Center).

We made a day trip there for an experience of their buffet and visited their observation deck during our latest trip to Bangkok.

Our Experience at Baiyoke Sky

The 88 storey, 309 metres high hotel was completed in 1997. To be frank, the building’s exterior and the lower floors’ common area looked kind of old and run-down to us. The interior design and furnishing appeared much in need of a refurbishment too. Thankfully, the upper floors which we spent most of our time are quite decent. Before heading upstairs, tickets have to be exchanged (if you have purchased one online) or purchased at the counters at 7th storey.

We enjoyed buffet lunch at Baiyoke Sky Floating Market Restaurant at 75th floor. Baiyoke Sky Floating Market Restaurant styles itself as the highest floating market in Thailand. The restaurants focuses mainly on Thai dishes, which are displayed on boats in a long line with trendy nostalgic photo corners. Their staff were also dressed in traditional Thai attire.

There were many tour groups dining in as well so we were seated at a sunny spot, ‘toasting’ in the heat as we ate. Then again, this was a window seat and we got good views while we ate and not seated inside.
Note: All tickets have table numbers indicated so where you will be seated is already pre-arranged at the counters below.

The usual Thai favourites are all available; tom yam goong, papaya salad, mango sticky rice etc. Food was decent though not particularly outstanding but it was nice for us to start off our first meal with all our preferred dishes as well as try new ones.

They have this cute place-mat which shows some of the favourite dishes and which part of the country they originated from.

The observation deck at 77th floor with cultural exhibits and souvenir stand. There are also paid telescope and free-to-use interactive information panels to enhance the experience.

From the observation deck at 77th storey, we took the elevator up to 83rd storey before climbing up a flight of stairs.

The revolving view point at 84th floor was surprisingly quiet. For most of our stay up there, it was just CL and me on the deck. Each buffet meal includes entry to observation deck and revolving view point, so with the crowd at the restaurants earlier, I expected more people to head upstairs for a look.

Tall fence with barbed wire surrounds the 360-degree revolving deck to allow for a safe environment while taking in the view of Bangkok and its suburbs. Admission fee to observation deck and revolving deck without buffet meal is at 400 baht per person and includes a drink at 83rd storey roof top bar.

It is worth heading to Baiyoke Sky Hotel for the view of Bangkok, though it is facing fierce competition with the opening of King Power MahaNakhon, the tallest building in Bangkok, and its outdoor glass platform.
